General
SS-31 (also known as Elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeted peptide that stabilizes mitochondrial function by binding to cardiolipin, a key phospholipid in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It enhances mitochondrial bioenergetics, reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and protects cells from oxidative stress and apoptosis. SS-31 has shown therapeutic potential in preclinical and clinical studies for conditions involving mitochondrial dysfunction, such as heart failure, neurodegenerative diseases, and muscle atrophy.
